Wow, this show surprised me

People can say what
they want about 50 cent but he did a great job with this show. Power
looks genuine and the story is very appealing. The cast in the show are
marvelous especially Omari Hardwick. Expect this actor in great roles in
the future. I really hope this show makes 2-3 seasons because the
quality of the first episode was too good. The soundtrack of the Movie
is good too, they use popular songs in a couple of scenes. The cars, the
suits and the Environment is very well picked. I live in Sweden and i
hope this will come to Europe. There are too many bad series on TV and
this show would fit TV anywhere. I will follow this shot until the very
end and i will enjoy it. This show is above of what i expected.

You think you are cool.

I do feel lucky and I
do thank God when I realize that fact. It is hard to talk about certain
things like old age and death because we tend to hide them under the mat
but you can still see the bump. I would prefer dying on the spot before
one of my kids and I know it is hard to put it in words. Putting a
complicated topic like death on film becomes hard if you think at what
you want to put across. The prospect of loosing a person you
love, including yourself, has to become a description of feelings. Joni
Lefkowitz and Susanna Fogel have pleased my soul, it is wonderful to
know that someone can depict reality from the heart. I do not think
everything has to be a fairy tale but things do tend to be different if
you let your heart talk and express your feelings. We are always chasing
life even if we do not realize it and I think it is a show worth
dedicating a few hours of my chase. Thanks to all involved in this show
and I wish all the best.

Nice, irresistable Mel
27 February 2002 |
Although I'm not one
for science fiction, I found this film to be entertaining and rather
wholesome, much to my surprise, despite its PG rating; we get to see Mel
Gibson's naked tushie (Whoo-hoo!). Forever Young takes place in 1939,
where Daniel (a pilot played by Mel), after being unable to propose to
his girlfriend who soon afterwards falls into a coma, decides to be
frozen by his best friend for a year's time. It turns out, however, that
he lies dormant until 1992, being accidentally awakened with a boy's
jacket in hand. This starts a rather amusing and interesting walk
through the streets, and a reunion with the boy, who, with the aid of
his mother (played spectacularly by Jamie Lee Curtis), help him on his
search to untangle his past -- bringing him to the sudden realization
that true love can't wait. This film has it all: drama, action,
romance, bits of humor, a well-written script, a wonderful cast,
spectacular scenery, and most of all, a gorgeous Mel, who plays his role
of the daring, young test pilot to a tee. It's a wonderful film to see,
especially if you're a true romantic at heart.

This isn't, nor I dare say was it trying to be, no wolf creek here, nor lovely bones. Having
said all that, this nearly two hour long monstrosity is time one will
never get back, so hopefully dear reader you are more sensible than I
and are reading reviews first and shall find those two hours would be
better spent reading, writing a letter, researching your ancestry,
knitting socks or counting the stars in the sky, basically anything
would be a better use of two hours of breathing time than watching this
movie. As Madonna should probably retire from music with some shred of
dignity remaining, so to should the actors and director of this utterly
dull, uninspired, insipid pile of sheep poo. So yes, next time I
see these names involved in cinema I will sensibly get some knitting
needles if only to poke my eyes out Nzd to stab my ears no common sense.

Wax on...Wax the best movie ever!
31 January 2005 |
This is a classic
coming of age story. A story about a boy who has to face his fears,
girls, and moving to a new environment. Daniel, who is a big up stater,
clashes with the rich people of the Cali high life and learns that not
all people are who they seem. The Kobra Cai, as they are called in the
film, bully Daniel and Daniel just seems like he has no choice but to
take revenge. So he learns the next best thing--KARATE. Even though he
has no idea what hes doing. He goes with the flow. Mr. Mayagi teaches
him respect, discipline, and anyone can over come their fears. This is
one of the best films of the 80's. It even has classic names of the
80's, like Johnny, Daniel, Tommy, and my favorite, Bobby. So if you
don't have anything better to do, then check out Karate Kid. You might
even learn a thing or two about a thing or two.

The Karate Kid
No wax-on wax-off but this Karate Kid would make Mr. Miyagi proud
13 June 2010 |
Over the years, I have
taken a lot of grief from friends for making The Karate Kid, the 1984
movie directed by Rocky Oscar winner John G. Avildsen, one of my five
favorite movies of all time. So it was with apprehension and low
expectations that I went to see the remake.
Wow, what a
magnificent job of re-creating the first film while modernizing it,
setting it in China, and bringing all the tension, man-love, and depth
back to the big screen. This time, Dutch director Harald Zwart added
wonderful scenic views of China and lost a bit of the sometimes-cheesy
dialog. But to his credit, he kept a great deal of the original plot
intact. Mom is transferred to Beijing and takes her son with her without
much worrying about his feelings. Dre immediately finds trouble as the
American outsider who befriends the beautiful Chinese girl. There is the
evil sensei of the trained-to-maim thugs who rule the school that our
hero, Dre Parker (Jaden Smith), has been thrown into. The bad kids
target him, and he gets the heck beat out of him.
To the rescue
comes the maintenance guy in the apartment building in which he lives.
Played by Jackie Chan, Mr. Han isn't quite as sage as Mr. Miyagi but he
uses almost the same technique (not exactly wax-on-wax-off,
paint-the-fence, and sand-the-floor but close). His personal secret
remains essentially intact, too, which when discovered by Dre, motivates
him to work harder. The role of Dre's mom, played here by Oscar nominee
Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), is beefed up
from the part that Randee Heller played in the original. The young girl,
Meiying (Wanwan Han in her first role), looks vaguely like Tamlyn
Tomita, who played the love interest in The Karate Kid: Part 2. The rest
of the film plays close to the original as well but I won't tell you if
he wins (as Daniel LaRusso did in the original) or loses (as Rocky
did).
Jaden Smith proves that he may be a force in the business
for a long time. His parents, of course, are Will Smith and Jada Pinkett
Smith, and they have created a natural. That was evident in The Pursuit
of Happiness. Hand it to the kid: he worked really hard to learn kung
fu (it's not karate). And while I preferred Ralph Macchio because he was
so raw and not talented as an actor, Jaden Smith knows the camera is
always there, which I think he will grow out of over time. Jackie Chan
is really quite good here, shedding the recent tongue-in-cheek comedy
roles. This part fits him perfectly and Morita would have been proud had
he lived to see it.
After my disappointments with so many other
remakes, I was pleasantly surprised. The director and cast clearly found
the balance.

Sadism and masochism beneath a veneer of revenge. Lou Ford is a
mild-mannered sheriff's deputy in a Texas oil town in the mid 1950's.
His boss sends him to roust a prostitute living in a rural house. She
slaps him; he hits her, then, after daily sex for the next few weeks, he
decides it's love. She's devoted to him and becomes his pawn in a
revenge plot she thinks is to shakedown the son of Chester Conway, the
town's wealthy king of construction. Lou has a different plan, and
bodies pile up as murder leads to murder. The district attorney suspects
Lou, and Conway may have an inkling, but Lou stays cool. Is love, or at
least peace, in the cards?
Reviews of The Killer Inside Me
Utterly disturbing and fascinating. A conversation starter.
Ironically, I picked
this over the documentary 'Armadillo' about the war in Afghanistan,
because I didn't feel like watching a truly frightening and disturbing
movie that night. I felt like watching something 'fictionally scary'. It
seems I should have gone for the war documentary instead, this movie
had me wrecked emotionally for days. The story kind of clings, you have
to deal with it, but it's complex and hard. It's a challenging movie. What
keeps riddling me about this movie, is how on earth did anyone manage
to make me feel sympathetic towards the main character, who's an
occasionally psychotic, cynical and brutal sadist? Even when he loses
his temper completely with consequences beyond anything you thought you
would ever watch on the big screen, you find yourself on his side. Now,
it's not an uncommon ambition for a director to construct 'bad'
characters with compelling sides that awaken your sympathy, but this is
beyond my comprehension. He's not a character you feel sorry for, he's
not playing the victim anywhere, he's a sadist out of control. He plans
things carefully to serve his own purposes and explodes in violence.
Still, you want him to make it. You are left for hours thinking and
discussing why on earth you found yourself supporting this character.
Why would anybody?!? I don't know how this was done, it is, as I said,
disturbing. I was thinking about this for days, I'm still
thinking about it. There are many story lines to examine in retrospect,
there's his childhood, the violence, the biblical figures and
references, the forbidden sexual urges, the gender dynamics of the time
and how Hudson and Albas characters are both in their own way revolting
them. Casey Affleck gives a scarily brilliant performance, and Kate
Hudson deserves compliments on her fantastic performance as the
classical 'good girl of good family' of the 1950s who hides both a great
social insight and a dark side. The Killer Inside Me is a great
conversation starter, my boyfriend and I discussed this for hours (and
we are far from an intellectual movie-discussing couple). Americans
should be warned though, this is without a doubt one of the most
graphical violent Hollywood productions I have ever seen.

Let's keep this short

terrible at times (but very solid from Olyphant who was a GREAT choice
to play Agent 47), the special FX are loud and neat to look at, there's
lots of explosive action-packed gun fights, and the hot chick gets

dull and awkward in the beginning, but it picked up about 15 minutes in

Everyone reviewing this film must be 12 years old. This is a terrible film, and I'm a JCVD fan!
10 January 2013 |
I rate, I don't usually
review unless it's really good, or really bad. This is the latter. As a
JCVD fan I've been encouraged by his some of his later work in the film
'JCVD', 'Universal Soldier: Regeneration' and 'The Expendables 2'. He's
old, sure, but he's kept in shape and his acting has improved a lot
over the years, he's actually quite good! But this film is one of the
cheapest pieces of crap I've seen and well beneath the actor JCVD has
become in his twilight years. It's poorly written, poorly shot, poorly edited and poorly acted by everyone else in the thing! It
feels like it was directed by a teen on HD camcorder. I couldn't sit
through the whole thing. That's some dead honesty, as I've sat through a
lot of crap and a lot of JCVD over the years (sometimes one and the
same). Don't waste your time. If you are trying to chose between this and something else right now, choose that something else.

6 Bullets to Hell
Fresh new look at a much beloved genre, the Spaghetti Western!

"Six Bullets To Hell"
is really great on so many levels, I enjoyed the hell out of it. The
"look"and "feel" of the film is pure "spaghetti western" and in as much
as it plays like an "homage" to Leone, Corbucci and Petroni it stands on
it's own mainly on the strength of the acting and cinematography.
Tanner Beard's "Bobby Durango" is the sickest sociopath since Aldo Ray
in "Welcome to Hard Times." The cold death stare and ruthless swagger he
possesses is quite alarming, this guy is a force of nature, like a
tornado you don't want to cross paths with and Beard essays his
malevolence with skill and dark charisma. He wrote and co-directed this
with Russell Cummings. Cummings is also really great as Sheriff Morris
(who's father taught him to use his head instead of a gun.) His subtle
evolution in the movie is one of it's true delights and Cummings shows
us the heart of the character and not just a "character." Together they
have captured the essence and feel of the spaghetti classics while
giving it all a fresh polish. With the excellent cinematography of
Olivier Merckx they manage to capture the beauty of the terrain while
never losing the desolation of the era. You can almost taste the dust in
your mouth. Crispian Belfrage as "Billy Rogers" has old school movie
charisma and a bit of the Clint "squint" but with his own bristling
energy behind the eyes. You can feel the blood and memories of this
character, the history. He tears into his role with relish, he's great
to watch...Ken Luckey's "Two Gun Joe" is another character who wears the
depravity of the times in his crazy socio/psychopathic demeanor... the
chemistry all of the actors have is really compelling and essential to
making this movie work. So many great performances from all of the
actors in this, wonderful moments with actors well immersed in the
essential grittiness of their roles. The movie clocks in at a crisp 80
minutes and while there aren't a lot of surprises plot wise you can tell
the people who made this made it with love for the genre and an eye for
reclaiming the genre as the pure cinematic entertainment it is.

No doubt the film could
use some cleaning around the edges. The film has some truly great
writing sprinkled in with some kind of average writing, which makes the
whole thing sort of frustrating. But really, it's pretty good. The two
leads are really fantastic and they have a lot of chemistry, which would
have been the biggest hindering factor if they didn't. They make the
film work as well as it does. Mostly, it's just really well-made
technically for being an independent film. I really wish that more
people find out about it because it deserves to be seen by more people,
and I look forward to seeing what the director/writer does in the
future. Definitely recommended.

I honestly don't know how I think of this film. Not too bad but not too good either.
The
Gallows overall i say is a horror movie for people who are getting into
the horror genre. I wasn't too impressed with the film considering it
did have useless jumpscares (the ending was so bland & typical) but
at parts of the movie it did add a creepy atmosphere.
If you're a
die hard horror movie lover than you might not be too satisfied with
this film. It had the pace of ouija. One moment their in school then
then 2 seconds later Charlie is attacking them.
Overall "ehh"
film I feel like it could've been better even with its found footage
genre. If this film was thought out through more thoroughly it could've
been a movie to remember to the audience but of course typical jumps
cares.
One thing I gotta say is Reece's jawline could seriously cut glass, seriously.

Stunning Visuals, Tepid Dialog
6 May 2015 |
I felt this movie had
stunning visuals which is not surprising because the visuals were shot
first, and then a movie, loosely based on the main characters' real
life, was written later. The dialog was mediocre and clichéd, e.g., when
the main character, Anderson, is jumping off a cliff he exclaims that
he have never felt so alive. Another example is when Anderson's friend
or agent asks him "if he got laid". The editing was instrumental in
defining the mood of a scene, for example, when they were in a club the
quick cuts showed the energy of the scene. The plot was somewhat
predictable for the main couple but I was not sure what would happen

Self/less Reviews
Billionaire Damian Hale has terminal
cancer. He turns to a radical medical procedure called "shedding," in
which his consciousness is transferred to a healthy body. After the
procedure, Damian, now called Edward, starts a new life in New Orleans
but is plagued by disturbing images. When he delves into Edward's
mysterious origin, he learns that some will kill to keep it secret. My
buddy and I, both long time film buffs of multi-genres yearn for decent
sci-fi thrillers that are well written and directed, leave us guessing
here and there via plot twists and turns, includes necessary action,
murder and mayhem and a credible Mr. Evil. This film delivers 116
minutes of story, acting, production value and pure cinema sci-fi
thrilling FUN. We were both thumbs-up entertained by one of Ryan
Reynolds best efforts plus a fine supporting cast including Mr. Evil
(Albright). Our usual post film discussion of plot holes was minimal
given the original, well crafted screenplay. That is not to say we did
not suspend belief as is the case with many of our best action/Sci-Fi
films. A major section of the film, with some of its best action
sequences, reminded me of my favorite scenes in Bourne Legacy. With
all the above said there was yet room for disturbed, romantic
relationships and one cute kid spitting out all her needed lines. Production value gives us some fun shots of New Orleans, area mansions and a finale 'home' in a spectacular locale. There
have been so many mind invasion/transfer films that our expectations
for something original with thrills, excitement and pathos were low. We
left the theater smiling for the simple reason that we were both
thoroughly entertained.
