Storyline

In the early 1600's, the Manchurians have taken over sovereignty of China and established the Ching Dynasty. While many nationalist revolts still brew within the martial artists' community, the newly set-up government immediately imposes a Martial Arts Ban, forbidding the practice of martial arts altogether in order to gain control and order. Wind Fire (Sun Hong-Lei), a surrendered military official from the previous dynasty, sees this as an opportunity to make a fortune for himself by helping to execute the new law. Greedy, cruel, and immoral, Wind Fire ravages the North-western China, and his next goal is to attack the final frontier, Martial Village. Fu Qingzhu, a retired executioner from the previous dynasty, feels the need to put a stop to this brutality and sets out to save Bowei Fortress. He brings Wu Yuanyin and Han Zhiban from the village with him to Mount Heaven to seek help from Master Shadow-Glow, a hermit who is a master of swords and leads a group of disciples of great ...

Excellent Film. Deserving of more praise!
6 October 2005 |
Just finished watching Seven Swords. I have no idea why people are so against it. Sure, at 2 and a half hours length, it is still missing over an hour, but I had no trouble understanding the story, and to me the characters were pretty fleshed out. For some reason people are dead set against this film, and I wonder if it has to do with Crouching Tiger, Hero and Daggers?

Maybe these people haven't seen The Bride With White Hair, The Blade or films like that. I get the impression that many complaints are leveled by Hollywood trained fans who don't yet understand the context of this film. Whatever the case, this film deserves accolades for it's imagination and for hewing so close to sword fight movie tradition.

The action was fantastic and the fights were creative and very clever. Yes, they did it with wires. That's why we keep coming back. The swords themselves rules, and the cinematography had that Tsui Hark attention to detail. The middle of the film has mostly dramatic elements, building up to a huge finale. I never thought it dragged on, and I found myself rapt until the final credit rolled.

Seven Swords was beautifully shot, the characters embodied the fantasy perfectly and acting was full of heart. Get it.

Power Reviews

Wow, this show surprised me
11 June 2014 |

People can say what they want about 50 cent but he did a great job with this show. Power looks genuine and the story is very appealing. The cast in the show are marvelous especially Omari Hardwick. Expect this actor in great roles in the future. I really hope this show makes 2-3 seasons because the quality of the first episode was too good. The soundtrack of the Movie is good too, they use popular songs in a couple of scenes. The cars, the suits and the Environment is very well picked. I live in Sweden and i hope this will come to Europe. There are too many bad series on TV and this show would fit TV anywhere. I will follow this shot until the very end and i will enjoy it. This show is above of what i expected.

Chasing Life Reviews

You think you are cool.
1 November 2014 |
I do feel lucky and I do thank God when I realize that fact. It is hard to talk about certain things like old age and death because we tend to hide them under the mat but you can still see the bump. I would prefer dying on the spot before one of my kids and I know it is hard to put it in words. Putting a complicated topic like death on film becomes hard if you think at what you want to put across. The prospect of loosing a person you love, including yourself, has to become a description of feelings. Joni Lefkowitz and Susanna Fogel have pleased my soul, it is wonderful to know that someone can depict reality from the heart. I do not think everything has to be a fairy tale but things do tend to be different if you let your heart talk and express your feelings. We are always chasing life even if we do not realize it and I think it is a show worth dedicating a few hours of my chase. Thanks to all involved in this show and I wish all the best.

Nice, irresistable Mel
27 February 2002 |
Although I'm not one for science fiction, I found this film to be entertaining and rather wholesome, much to my surprise, despite its PG rating; we get to see Mel Gibson's naked tushie (Whoo-hoo!). Forever Young takes place in 1939, where Daniel (a pilot played by Mel), after being unable to propose to his girlfriend who soon afterwards falls into a coma, decides to be frozen by his best friend for a year's time. It turns out, however, that he lies dormant until 1992, being accidentally awakened with a boy's jacket in hand. This starts a rather amusing and interesting walk through the streets, and a reunion with the boy, who, with the aid of his mother (played spectacularly by Jamie Lee Curtis), help him on his search to untangle his past -- bringing him to the sudden realization that true love can't wait. This film has it all: drama, action, romance, bits of humor, a well-written script, a wonderful cast, spectacular scenery, and most of all, a gorgeous Mel, who plays his role of the daring, young test pilot to a tee. It's a wonderful film to see, especially if you're a true romantic at heart.

Horror in every what but it's intent to be a horror
13 July 2015 |

This isn't, nor I dare say was it trying to be, no wolf creek here, nor lovely bones.

Having said all that, this nearly two hour long monstrosity is time one will never get back, so hopefully dear reader you are more sensible than I and are reading reviews first and shall find those two hours would be better spent reading, writing a letter, researching your ancestry, knitting socks or counting the stars in the sky, basically anything would be a better use of two hours of breathing time than watching this movie. As Madonna should probably retire from music with some shred of dignity remaining, so to should the actors and director of this utterly dull, uninspired, insipid pile of sheep poo.

So yes, next time I see these names involved in cinema I will sensibly get some knitting needles if only to poke my eyes out Nzd to stab my ears no common sense.

Storyline

Daniel and his mother move from New Jersey to California. She has a wonderful new job, but Daniel quickly discovers that a dark haired Italian boy with a Jersey accent doesn't fit into the blond surfer crowd. Daniel manages to talk his way out of some fights, but he is finally cornered by several who belong to the same karate school. As Daniel is passing out from the beating he sees Miyagi, the elderly gardener leaps into the fray and save him by outfighting half a dozen teenagers. Miyagi and Daniel soon find out the real motivator behind the boys' violent attitude in the form of their karate teacher. Miyagi promises to teach Daniel karate and arranges a fight at the all-valley tournament some months off. When his training begins, Daniel doesn't understand what he is being shown. Miyagi seems more interested in having Daniel paint fences and wax cars than teaching him Karate.

Wax on...Wax the best movie ever!
31 January 2005 |

This is a classic coming of age story. A story about a boy who has to face his fears, girls, and moving to a new environment. Daniel, who is a big up stater, clashes with the rich people of the Cali high life and learns that not all people are who they seem. The Kobra Cai, as they are called in the film, bully Daniel and Daniel just seems like he has no choice but to take revenge. So he learns the next best thing--KARATE. Even though he has no idea what hes doing. He goes with the flow. Mr. Mayagi teaches him respect, discipline, and anyone can over come their fears. This is one of the best films of the 80's. It even has classic names of the 80's, like Johnny, Daniel, Tommy, and my favorite, Bobby. So if you don't have anything better to do, then check out Karate Kid. You might even learn a thing or two about a thing or two.
